Little Mashers 2017 Update

Its February and we can’t believe how quickly the last year has gone. Since April 2016 St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex has been the new Little Mashers HQ. We love it here and have received the warmest of welcomes. Our studio now comprises of a printing studio where we design and produce our clothes, gifts and products, and then there’s the shop, a lovely space where we can sell not only all our Masher goods, but items from other cool british brands, many of them local designers. Below are some pics of our studio/shop in all its glory!

St Leonards and Hastings are like no other towns. They love to celebrate and since we have been here we have witnessed many many festivals, from the Jack in the Green festival, The Pirate festival, St Leonards festival and the Frost fair to name but a very few. The people around here love to celebrate, and of course we like to celebrate too, so we opened our doors to kids of all ages and ran print workshops to coincide with them.  At the end of November we took part in the St Leonards Frost Fair, running a tee-shirt and Christmas stocking printing workshop and generally soaking up the celebratory atmosphere in our new seaside home. Kings Road outdid itself this year, with market stalls, street food, mulled wine and churros, carollers singing the old classics and of course, a huge procession of local people dressed in their winter finest… led by a giant Polar Bear! That’s just the kind of town we’ve moved to… We took some pictures of the parade and the magnificent lights that were switched on at the end of the day. Aren’t they beautiful? And right outside our window!

Our screenprinting workshops have been a great success, from the St Leonards Festival and Frost Fair to our spooky Halloween glow in the dark workshop in October. Back in Sept we also had 16 GCSE students from London at the studio, learning the basics of screenprinting to compliment part of their GCSE studies. Some of the participants had never visited the seaside before and had never seen the sea! They loved it, and hopefully will be back again in the near future.

We are planning more workshops in the coming year and are very excited to be working alongside the Jerwood Gallery in delivering a series of screenprinting workshops as part of their educational programme. The first one of these will be held at Easter. We will send out further information nearer the time.

The new year has been pretty eventful so far with Playtime Paris Trade show back in January. We met lots of old and new customers and are excited to be stocking our items in lots of new parts of the world. We have added lots of new designs to our existing popular ranges and introduced some new products. All of which have been very well received. Below are some pics of our latest collection taken by a lovely local photographer Veronique Leplat, check her out on instagram @veroniqueleplatphotography

We want to thank you all for your support so far; remember, whenever you buy from a small independent business, an actual person does a little happy dance! We have been very lucky to have been so warmly greeted in our new hometown and can’t wait for the rest of the year to unfold.

Next time you take a trip to the seaside, come down and visit us! We’re only a hop, skip and a jump from the train station…

Little Mashers Autumn Update

We always keep meaning to update our blog more frequently and now when writing a list on our updates it seems endless. I will therefore keep it short and sweet.

The renovation on our shop and studio was finally completed back in May, with a new storefront and shop attached to our studio.

Our old stockroom had a complete makeover and Andrew designed and built a whole new interior. You can see how fantastic it looks. Recently we have added to the shop by installing a pic n mix section, which includes fab pocket money toys for the kids to buy.
There are some great bits n bobs for parties, birthdays etc and the kids love it.

In the last few days Chalk and Tees – our chalkboard T-shirt has been on sale in one of our most favourite places in London, The Tate Modern. We are so excited, I went down there and took a picture of it in the shop. The design they are selling is very apt for the Tate, one of our new designs, the picture frame. You can draw your favourite masterpiece, slogan or words of wisdom onto the large printed frame.

The chalkboard t-shirts were also shortlisted down to three contenders for the NOTHS – Make Awards- Baby and Child product of the year.
Alas we didn’t win but we were so happy to get so far out of thousands of products.

Back in July we saw our first order bound for Australia set sail. Adventure Lane are now official distributors of our products within Australia. Hopefully the Aussies will love our products too. We are currently preparing our second shipment as we speak.

This summer was also the first time we exhibited at Playtime Paris. Alongside our standing collection we launched new products, The Chalkboard Placemat as part of our chalkboard product range and our new Ice cream Light(pictured), both of which went down well. It was a heatwave in Paris but it didn’t seem to stop buyers from coming. As well as making great sales and contacts we also got to hang out in Paris with our fellow Brits.  Andrew and I also had a bit of child free time to explore Paris and have a bit of fun.

Our screen printing workshops are continuing to grow and are one of our most favourite things to do. Past and future workshops include, Walthamstow Garden Party, Forty Hall Farm, Livestock, The Vestry House Museum, The Big Draw. The year hasn’t ended yet and we hope for a successful Xmas season.

We’ll keep you updated(I promise)

Lots of fab news at Little Mashers

Wow it’s nearly a year since we last posted on our blog, we can’t believe it. What with the shop, trade shows, orders, new designs/products and organising pop ups I think we have overlooked it a little :). Sorry for the lack of updates.

There’s been so much going on at Masher mansions, where shall we start ? In January we launched our new product the Chalk and Talk at Dot to Dot London. The Chalk and Talk is a chalkboard book that kids can draw on again and again. Due to the popularity of our Chalk and Tees range we wanted to extend our product range in this area. The chalk and talk was born! Just like a chalkboard, the book is screenprinted with a special chalkboard ink so you can draw to your hearts content. Each book contains 8 pages and there are currently two designs I love… a series of images of things you love and a travel book with pictures of different modes of transport and squares you can fill in. These show you how many cars, bikes etc you  have seen and which colour. The books are perfect for taking on long journeys, for restaurants or rainy days. Since they launched they have already proved popular with independents and larger stores and have just been featured in CWB Magazine.

Due to our print workshops being so well received we have decided to promote them to a wider audience. Coming soon will be the Little Mashers printing experience. As from April onwards you will be able to book a workshop online. They will run twice a month on a Saturday and you will be able to experience the joys of  screen printing within a relaxed and fun environment. Within this two and a half hour session you will get to design and print a finished item of your choice, from either a t-shirt, bag, tea towel or paper print. The workshops will be from ages 5 upwards and can be booked for large groups. It includes adults too! They make for a wonderful family experience, a memorable birthday party or a welcome gift for anyone who loves being creative. For further details please email us.

Just before Christmas we were approached by an Australian distributor about the possibility of  distributing a selection of our products all over Australia. Finally after months of negotiations we are excited to announce that Little Mashers products will soon be sold down under, at various outlets. All of our chalkboard products including Chalk and Tees, Tote bags, our fab new Chalk and Talk plus our Junior Masher Chef sets, will be available to buy in the next few months.

In April our  lovely shop/studio in the heart of Walthamstow village, will be undergoing a transformation with the frontage of the shop being made bigger, lighting throughout being changed and floor painted. We know it’s going to look fab and we are so excited. We”ll post pics of the new shop front when completed. This will mean that the shop will be closed for two weeks, but we hope it will be worth the wait!

I think that’s all for now, we won’t be leaving it so long next time.

Little Mashers

Summer is finally here!

Whoop de doop! summer is finally here and at Masher Studios we are baking in our skins. Andrew and I were having a little recap the other day and we could never have imagined what would happen when we took on 39 Orford Rd back in September. The people we have met, the opportunities that have arisen have just been amazing and it’s so great to be part of such a creative community.
In the front of the studio/shop we now have Queenie and Ted permanently sharing with us along with Wood St Coffee. We still have a space for regular pop ups by different local designers and will announce them soon. This year we are also lucky enough to be part of the art trail and are exhibiting all the fab work created by the kids whom participated in our Easter workshops.

From the 1st July onwards we have a month long concession in Little Gems Boutique on Victoria Park Rd. Along with all our clothing range we will be selling our cards, gifts, chalk and tees and cooksets. Its a great little shop and we are really looking forward to. Look out for our window display !

This summer we will be showing again at Dot to Dot .  A new showroom for independent children’s brands based in the U.K.  Loads of great brands will be showcased and we are proud to be part of it again after a successful show in January. The show runs from 12th-13th July.

Its festival time for us later on in July and we are pleased to be part of the Walthamstow Garden Party – in conjunction with the Barbican. A free weekend of music, theatre, food and family fun. We will be running print workshops(TBC) and selling our wares all weekend. It should be great fun. A week later on the 2nd August we have the Walthamstow Village Festival  and the studio/shop will be open to festival goers who fancy something to buy, drink or eat.

Little mashers Chalk and Tees – Chalkboard T-shirt (a mini film)

Yippee finally the Chalk and Tees mini film Aisling and I shot over the last couple of weeks is up and running. We got various kids and adults to fill in their ideas for each design and then we drew them on each of the 13 different designs. We are pretty happy with the result. Thanks to the lovely Aisling we have a fine edited film which we think is pretty cool. Take a look and see what you think. A BIG thank you for everyone’s help and to all the super duper creative kids.
